It was back to winning ways for the OgaBoys after running riot over Ibom Youths in the Nigeria National League (NNL) Southern Conference Group B1 match day 14 fixture.
Ikorodu City were without a win in their last three league fixtures with the last win being a 2-0 win over Ekiti United and Coach Abiodun, was eager to change the tides with a late switch in formation as Michael replaced Gafar in the midfield.
LINE UP: GK: Paul Akor; Sebastine Godwin, Musa Habeeb , Gabriel Adewara, Harrison Austin; Michael Oyetola, Tosin Oyedokun, Hassan Olubode, Salami Ismail; Anthony Okachi & Paul Ogunkoya.
It was a dominant start to the game as we kept on to most of the ball, though both teams gave it away while trying to adjust to the size of the pitch, as the game was moved from the Teslim Balogun Stadium to the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium.
With half chances here and there, the first goal came after a drive into the box from Okachi, saw the keeper come out to save his low cross but his clearance wasn’t strong, and the ball fell kindly for Tosin outside the box who stroked it, into the net without the goalie in sight.
12 minutes later, Paul Ogunkoya got on the end of a fantastic team move, as he latched on to a cross from Austin to double our advantage, with his second goal in the league in back to back games as we went into the break with a two-goal lead.
More of the same it was in the second half and the ball was far away from the visitors, who couldn’t manage a shot on target, all game despite making changes even as we made changes of our own to see the game out.
Ismail, Hassan and Okachi all made way for Ayoade, Saheed and Farouk Salami and the latter sealed our win after a pass from the defender was intercepted by Ayoade, located Farouk who took his time from the edge of the box to hit a clean curler leaving the goalkeeper helpless.
It was three goals and three point for Ikorodu City who next face a trip to J.Atete on Saturday, 4th June, 2022.
