Ikorodu City FC recorded a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Kwara United in their Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 21 encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, on Sunday, further strengthening their home form this season.
The hosts made a flying start to the contest and took the lead as early as the fifth minute, when Samuel Ezekiel headed home from close range following a well-delivered cross, giving Ikorodu City an early advantage.
Kwara United responded with increased attacking intent after conceding, enjoying spells of possession and pushing numbers forward in search of an equaliser. However, Ikorodu City remained disciplined at the back, limiting clear-cut chances and maintaining their defensive shape for most of the game.
The visitors stepped up the pressure in the second half, forcing Ikorodu City to defend deep at times. The home side, however, managed the game effectively, with their goalkeeper and backline standing firm against sustained pressure.
As part of tactical adjustments in the closing stages, Ikorodu City introduced Ogundele Gbemisola, a defensive midfielder, in the 75th minute. The substitution marked Gbemisola’s third appearance of the season, and his presence added stability in midfield as the hosts protected their slender lead during the final moments of the match.
Despite Kwara United’s late push, Ikorodu City held on to secure all three points at the final whistle, extending their positive run and consolidating their position on the league table.
The result underlined Ikorodu City’s growing reputation as a difficult side to break down at home, while Kwara United were left to rue missed opportunities in a closely contested encounter
