A goal by Oyedokun Tosin was not enough for us to get a point in Enugu as we fell to a slim 2-1 defeat to Adoration FC in the Nigerian National League 2022 match day six fixture.
The game which came just after our 4-3 win over Abeokuta Stormers saw a change in managerial role on the touch line as head coach Abiodun Obafemi was unable to make the trip due to personal reason and assistant coach Dabiri had responsibility of picking the team for the game and he made just one change the starting line up as Uchenna, out with injury was replaced by Johnson Peter.
LINE UP: GK: Akor Paul; Sebastine Godwin, Johnson Peter, Adewara Gabriel, Harrison Austin; Gafar Ojo, Oyedokun Tosin, Ojetoye Waliu, Godwin Odibo; Ayoade Babatunde & Damola Oluwa.
The first half was somewhat quiet but with the home side dominating play and showing they were playing on home soil as the better chances fell to them while our players struggled to settle.
The best half of the chance fell to Odibo who was slipped through on goal but his attempt was agonizingly over the bar. The striker eventually picked up and injury and was replaced by Hassan Olubode.
As the first half looked to be ending in a goalless game, a penalty was given by the referee as Waliu looked to have hacked down a striker in the box. The resulting kick was scored and the first half ended.
The second half saw a changed Ikorodu City as we controlled the game and quickly drew level with Hassan being so instrumental since coming on and he picked out Tosin with a fantastic ball into the box and the midfield slotted past the goalkeeper.
Pushing for a winning goal, it was the host who got back in front as a missed header from Sebastine presented a clear chance at goal and the striker wasted no time firing his team back into the lead.
It because a race against time, Saheed and Farouk came on to try to make impact and the latter’s header in the final minute wasn’t strong and went straight to the goal keeper.
It ended in a 2-1 loss for us and we next face J.Atete in a home fixture in Matchday eight on Saturday, 26th March, 2022 at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
