This weekend, we’re stepping into history. It’s our first league meeting with Shooting Stars in the NPFL and this isn’t just any match— it’s the South West Derby. It’s a chance to see off one of Nigeria’s football giants and spark a rivalry to remember.

Our preseason encounters have shown that we are evenly matched, each ending in a draw. But now, the stakes are higher and we are ready to show our strength once again on home turf, backed by the passionate support of you the fans.

This game is beyond just three points; it is about proving ourselves, defending our home and flaming up the passion for football in Lagos.

It is Derby O’Clock. This is about pride and we’re bringing everything we’ve got.

Recent Form

Right now, we’re in some of our best form. With three wins, a single loss and one draw in our last five matches, we’re heading into this game with confidence. Playing at home only adds to that—our last three games at home saw us score nine and concede just two. There couldn’t be a better team than Shooting Stars in a derby clash to push us to extend that home winning streak.

Team News

Midfielder Kelechi Onwe is still out as he works on his rehabilitation and personal training. Goalkeeper Chinemerem Olughu is dealing with a slight knock, so he’s a doubt for this one. Unfortunately, Moses Shodeinde won’t be available either.

Battling Shooting Stars

Let’s be honest—there’s plenty of reason to feel good about this one. Shooting Stars have struggled on the road, picking up just one point all season and that came way back on Matchday 1 against Nasarawa United. Since then, they’ve scored only once away from home—that same match—and have conceded seven goals across their travels.

For us, who’ve been ruthless at home, especially in front of goal, that’s definitely something to get excited about.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Derbies have a way of throwing up surprises and we know better than to underestimate any team, especially for a team that ended El Kanemi Warriors’ run of 10 games without defeat. We’ll stay focused, respect the game and let our football do the talking.
