Ikorodu City FC delivered a statement victory, defeating former champions Akwa United 4-1 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, in a dominant Matchday 15 performance of the Nigeria Premier Football League 2024/2024 season. This emphatic win propelled Oga Boys to 3rd place on the league table, while piling further misery on the struggling Promise Keepers.

The first game of December was nothing short of festivity for our fans, as the lads showcased their intent right from the start. It took just three minutes for Tosin Oyedokun to open the scoring, calmly slotting home a through ball from Salau Yusuf to net his maiden top-flight goal and ignite the home crowd.

Ikorodu City FC almost doubled their lead in the 23rd minute when Austin Harrison delivered a perfect cross into the box. However, Adelani Shola reacted too slowly, allowing the ball to roll out for a goal kick.

Akwa United showed a glimpse of their quality as they clawed their way back into the game in the 35th minute. A defensive slip saw center-back Chibuike Prestige beaten, allowing Chijioke Alaekwe to hit the ball past Faith James and bring the score level.

Oga Boys responded in first half stoppage time (45+3), Tosin Oyedokun turned provider with a brilliantly executed chest assist, setting up Emmanuel Solomon to restore our lead and send the team into the break full of confidence.

Ikorodu City carried the momentum into the second half. Olatunji Abdulmalik marked his first goal of the season in the 46th minute with a composed finish, solidifying the team’s control.

Despite taking the lead, our gaffer Nurudeen Aweroro made his usual tactical substitution in the 55th minute, bringing on Rivio Ayemwenre and Ayomide Cole for goalscorer Emmanuel Solomon and Alade Solomon. In the 71st minute, Cole continued his remarkable super-sub form, firing a sublime shot into the net following an assist from Abdulmalik Olatunji. This marked his fourth goal from the bench this season, further energizing our home fans.

In the dying moments of the game, Tosin Oyedokun, who had been pivotal with a goal and an assist, was substituted, replaced by Moses Shodeinde in the 89th minute. Oga Boys sealed a comprehensive 4-1 triumph over Akwa United, our most dominant win of the season so far.
