It’s finally time. The first of nineteen at home. We welcome the defending champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Rangers International for our first home game of the 2024/2025 season and our first ever home game in the top flight.

On the back of our first ever point in the league, which came away from home at Kwara, this should be the start of something good for us as we have our rescheduled matchday two fixture this midweek and also another weekend home fixture staring us in a few days time against Nasarawa United on Sunday.

Team News

In team news, no cause for alarm as every player is in good shape ahead of the first home game of the season. Players who traveled for the game away at Kwara are recovering well and Bright has a squad at max health to make his first home match selection from.

Facing Rangers Int’l

The title “defending champions” doesn’t come easy. Rangers earned that with a resounding performance last season with their youthful yet vastly experienced squad under the tutelage of Fidelis Ilechukwu, winning their eight NPFL title with 70 points last season.

Rangers have only played one game, the season opener against El Kanemi which ended goalless. They were recently knocked out of the CAF Champions League by Angolan side Sagrada Esperanca and will visit Lagos as a wounded Lion looking to take a pound of flesh from their next opponents, making the game a little tricky for us.

Previous Encounters

This will be the first official meeting (competitive or friendly) between both sides. The only thing of record is Ikorodu City gaining promotion to the NPFL on the home ground of our opponents, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu during the last NNL Super 8 promotion playoff.

Prepared and Focused

After surviving back-to-back games on the road to start life in the NPFL, the team now plays in front of their home fans for the first time and even faces consecutive home games with a massive opportunity to rack up the point as the fans cheer on.

The players have had their recovery session, the squad is large and rotations are expected in various positions, the mentality is top and the boys are ready to greet the cheers and smiling faces of the fans.
