Ikorodu City Football Club picked up their first ever Nigeria Premier Football League point in a fiercely contested goalless draw against Kwara United at the Kwara State Stadium Complex on match day three of the 2024/2025 season.

With five changes in the starting XI from the team that lost the league opener, Adio was handed his first top flight start, James, Chineme & Moses all made their debut for the club with starts.

A frantic start to the game saw the home side control the pace of the game to be very fast, putting Ikorodu City on the back foot for the first five minutes. The game began to open up after a long throw from Tosin was headed goal wards by Kelechi Onwe but straight into the hands of Nurudeen Badmus. Nurudeen restarted play quickly to set his side on a quick break and Emmanuel Ogbole hit a volley into the hands of Faith James.

Ikorodu City gradually settled into the game and it was end to end but without clear cut chances to score. Seven minutes from the half time whistle, Bright brought on Shola Adelani for Moses Sodeinde with the game ending goalless at the break.

The second half quickly wore on with Kwara United sending balls in to the box which were all dealt with by the back four. More substitutions from both sides and Bright introduced Harrison Austin and Ezekiel Samuel for Adio Ganiyu and Chineme Chinonso.

The final minutes of the game was without clear chances as Ikorodu City held Kwara United away from home to earn their first ever NPFL point in history.

It’s a tight week for Ikorodu City. The matchday two fixture against defending champions Rangers Int’l will hold in Wednesday and then Nasarawa United at the weekend, both games at home.
