The start of the second half of the Nigeria National League (NNL) 2023 season saw Ikorodu City FC host Ekiti United with the game ending in a 1-0 win for the hosts.

Ekiti United had earlier defeated the Oga Boys 2-1 in the first leg in Ekiti and Ikorodu City were condemned to win this game or see their season end very early.

A very shaky start to the game it was for both sides with no clear cut chance being created in the opening minutes until Ezeja Kenechukwu connected with Tosin’s cross but his header was off target and that signaled the start of the dominance for Ikorodu City.

Very short moments later, a dangerous attack saw Ayoade set up Tosin who missed from an unbelievable angle with Ikorodu City still searching for the first.

The first then came in the final five minutes of the game. Babatunde Bright replaced a wasteful Kenechukwu Ezeja and the former’s strike hit the arm of the defender with the referee pointing to the spot. The captain Tosin Oyedokun made no mistake, converting the penalty for his seventh goal of the season in all competitions to end the first half.

The second saw Ekiti United throw more bodies forward and Coach Sadiq Dabiri responded with changes of his own with Gidado Toyeeb, Paul Aderibigbe and Chinedu Nwagha coming on to see the game out as it ended 1-0.

Focus shifts to Madiba FC in the league as the teams seeks to keep the streak on going.
